The very talented learners of St Dominic’s Academy held their annual year – end concert on 17 and 18 October.
Audiences members, consisting of proud parents and family members were taken on a on a one-of-a-kind, South African adventure called The Blended South African Tale.
The captivating story followed Hansel and Gretel as they went in search for their stepsister, Red Riding Hood.

The mesmerized audience went along the journey and met a variety of interesting characters: the 3 little pigs, the Muffin Man and many more. Little did Hansel and Gretel know; Red Riding Hood had gone rogue and joined the villainous side!

The production unfolded with the Big Bad Wolf being Little Red Riding Hood’s mentor as she learned the ups, and downs, of being bad. All was not lost, with the help of the three good fairies, Hansel and Gretel made it safely to Granny’s house. It was a story filled with twists, turns and uniquely South African events.

Bronwyn Apperley who is a Grade 1 educator at St Dominic’s commended all who were involved in taking the production from imagination to the stage.

“A production such as this was no small undertaking, involving the Primary Phase of 350 learners from Grade R to Grade 7. Every child had an important role to play.
Our dedicated team of teachers took a story idea and the large Douthwaite Centre and turned it into a theatre to entertain full audiences with our dance moves and unique South African vibe!” said Apperley.
