The third annual South African Gospel Recognition Awards (SAGRA), which acknowledges up and coming artists is set to take place on 16 November 2024.
One of the nominees is non other than Newcastle born Richard Masemola.
The gospel singer and piano accordionist who began his professional singing career in 1994 has been nominated in the category for Best Gospel Jazz Project.
Having grown up in the township of Blaauwbosch, Richard always had dreams of spreading the gospel through music. Now, with four albums under his belt and being nominated for a SAGRA, he is well on his way to fulfilling his destiny.
Speaking to Spotlight On Newcastle,the 54 year – old singing sensation said that the highlight of his career was being able to perform at former South African President Nelson Mandela’s 88 birthday celebration.

“I am truly humbled by all those who love and support my music. I am equally humbled to be nominated in the category for Best Gospel Jazz Project and look forward to the awards show,” he said.
The event will be held at the Guild Theatre in East London on 16 November 2024.
Richard is also the proud founder of Amajuba Ayahlabelela, a gospel group which is made up of musicians and singers from the Amajuba District.
