Christmas is a time for giving, and for many , it is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who may be lonely, hurting or less fortunate.
The close-knit community of Fairleigh are gearing up for the 7th annual Christmas Gift Drive, which is set to take place in December.

The event , which first took place in 2018, is aimed at giving children who are from disadvantaged backgrounds in the area, a chance to experience a day filled with fun and festivities.

On the day, each child receives a gift, a hearty meal and a goody bag to take home. Entertainment for the day is also provided as well as informative talks on the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
One of the founding members of the event, Nichole Jasmin said that she began this initiative to spread joy in the hearts of the children.
“Many of the kids in this area come from disadvantaged homes. Many parents struggle even more at this time of year and succumb to the pressures of the festive season with the need to provide extra so that their little ones can also have a joyful Christmas. Our aim is to take the pressure off of parents and give the kids a fun day and spread love and joy. I was inspired by the idea of giving back to the community, especially to the underprivileged . This time of year is difficult but at the end of the day it is all about how we overcome these battles and find a way to spread joy.” explained Nichole.

Each year the event caters for between 150 to 250 children and this in itself is a task.
If you would like to assist the Fairleigh Christmas gift Drive, you can drop off a new or gently used toy at 3 Buckley Street, Fairleigh.
