Acting Mayor of the Amajuba District Municipality, T.E. Mthembu, together with Acting Municipal Manager Thulani Dube, led a team of Engineers and Plumbers on an intensive inspection tour across Danhauser , covering the areas of Kanini and Philip Farm.

The event, which took place on 12 February 2025 was aimed at being a proactive initiative and a critical component of the municipality’s ongoing War on Water Leaks and Dry Taps Programme.
According to the municipality, ground- breaking interventions addressing a spectrum of pressing challenges—from compromised infrastructure to informal water connections that threaten equitable service delivery were discussed.
Mayor Mthembu, together with the Acting Head of Administration’s presence on site, resonated deeply with the Community as they engaged directly with residents, addressing their concerns and committing swift action.

“During the comprehensive inspection tour, the team identified several critical issues that call for both immediate and long-term interventions. In the Kanini area, it became clear that the existing water infrastructure is inadequate and unable to meet the needs of residents, leaving many stranded without a dependable supply. In response, the team took swift and decisive action, repurposing an unauthorized water connection into a standpipe- a bold interim solution that aims to significantly reduce the Community’s dependence on water tanker temporary relief,” said the Danhauser Municipality Communications Unit.
At Philip Farm, a severely vandalized standpipe was discovered, leaking to such an extent that it was shutdown immediately to prevent further water loss in order for it to be repaired.
“In response to these findings, the municipality has formulated a strategic action plan. Immediate repairs to damaged infrastructure have been initiated, with technical teams implementing temporary measures to manage water pressure and curb further wastage. Illegal or unauthorised connections have been promptly disconnected, and plans for system optimization are underway to enhance overall capacity and ensure consistent water delivery—especially in high-lying areas, as the unplanned increase in the number of households has placed additional demand on the existing water infrastructure, which was originally designed to supply fewer households,” said the Communications Unit.

Acting Municipal Manager Thulani Dube reiterated the municipality’s dedication to efficient service delivery.
“Every effort is being made to secure a reliable and equitable water supply for all residents. The municipality also calls on community members to actively participate by reporting any instances of vandalism or illegal connections, thereby strengthening the collective effort to protect and enhance water infrastructure,” he said.
